Shreyas Iyer had an exciting 2024 year and now he will be the newest addition to Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2025.
At the beginning of the year, he was part of the Mumbai squad that clinched their 42nd Ranji Trophy title.

Iyer then captained Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL championship. He also played a key role in helping Mumbai win the Irani Cup. Under his leadership, Mumbai secured the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), marking their second title of the season.
"Super excited to be part of Punjab Kings. I cannot wait to join the Punjab Kings family. It's been a great year for me to win four trophies. My main goal is to win the IPL trophy for Punjab," Iyer said.
Iyer, previously had the privilege of playing under the mentorship of former Australia World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting in the IPL, expressed his excitement about collaborating with one of cricket's greats once more.
Earlier this year, Punjab Kings introduced Ponting as their new head coach, marking an exciting new chapter for the franchise.
"I can understand what the feelings must be among the fans. With Ricky coming in, we have shared a great camaraderie from the past. We would be putting our thinking caps on and brainstorming on many aspects. Hopefully, we will deliver from the match one," the 30-year-old concluded.
In the IPL 2025 auction, Shreyas Iyer was sold to the Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore, making him the second most expensive player in the history of the IPL auction after Rishabh Pant, who went from Delhi Capitals to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping 27 crore.
Punjab are yet to announce their captain for the new season but if Iyer is appointed then, he will be the very first player in the league to be the captain of three different franchises.
