Netizens find striking similarities to the public reprimand of KL Rahul following Lucknow Super Giants' defeat to Punjab Kings in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday (April 1) night.

After LSG suffered their second defeat of the season, the Lucknow-based franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an intense chat with skipper Rishabh Pant on the field, leading to fans recalling the incident from last season.

In the 2024 season, Rahul has had to face Goenka's wrath on the field over the team's loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. And this season, his questioning of captains in public continued as Pant was subjected to a similar meeting after LSG's defeat against Delhi Capitals in their opening game.

Pant and Lucknow had bounced back from the season opening loss with a victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, but the team once again suffered a defeat at home against Punjab Kings on Tuesday (April 1), when they failed to defend 172.

Following the match, the netizens attention turned to Goenka's discussion with Pant on the field as some even drew comparisons to the earlier episode between Rahul and the franchise owner, while some felt that questions needed to be asked. Here are some of the reactions on social media:

One user on X said that the owner was angry with Pant after the loss, while another user replied saying the intense chat was essential following the manner of the defeat at home.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants skipper Pant had said the team is still assessing the conditions at home and were 20-25 runs short after the defeat to Punjab.

"It (the total) wasn't enough, we were 20-25 runs short, but that's part and parcel of the game. Still assessing the conditions at our home ground. It's always going to be difficult to get a big total when you lose early wickets, but each and every player is trying hard to take the game forward," Pant told the broadcaster after the match.

"The idea was to get a slow wicket. I think the slower balls were sticking in. We got to learn from this game and move forward. There are a lot of positives, can't say much."
