Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson opened up on his relationship with legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, saying that he is living his dream to be sharing the field with the former Indian captain.
MS Dhoni is all set to make his 18th successive appearance in IPL at the age of 43, having been retained by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the mega auction last year. Dhoni, who captained CSK to five titles during his reign as skipper, was retained as an uncapped player.

The veteran wicketkeeper is regarded as one of the finest brains in the game, and every aspiring cricketer would want to gain knowledge from the great. Samson like every other cricketer revealed that he is living that dream.
"Like every young Indian cricketer, I always wanted to be around MS Dhoni. Every time we played against CSK, I wanted to sit and talk to him, ask him how he does things. It was a dream for me," Samson said during SuperStar series on JioHotstar.
Samson, who has shared the field with the seasoned campaigner frequently, also recalled a time when his relationship with Dhoni grew further after winning a player of the match award in a Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings match at Sharjah in IPL 2020.
"I remember playing a match against CSK in Sharjah, where I finally performed well, scored around 70-80 runs, won the game, and became the Man of the Match. After that, I met Mahi bhai, and since then, our relationship has grown," Samson added.
"Even now, I meet him often. Just yesterday, I met him again. It's truly a blessed feeling-to go from idolizing him to now sitting with him for shoots and events. I feel like I'm living my dream."
Samson and Dhoni recently shared the screen for a fun banter IPL 2025 promo on Star Sports. The duo also shared a stage during the Dhoni app launch event in Mumbai, where Samson revealed that he always said, "thoda aur bhaiya, thoda aur" when there is talk of Dhoni's retirement.
"When MS Dhoni comes to play the IPL, people keep talking about 'when is he retiring?' I keep telling myself 'thoda aur bhaiya, thoda aur (please, play a little more).' That's the example I had in my mind. Of course, our Indian mentality is to get thoda aur. I also agree with that," Samson had said during the promotional event.
Dhoni and Samson will once again share the field as early as March 30th when CSK vs RR IPL 2025 clash takes place at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. CSK will then host RR at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for the reverse fixture on May 12.
