As the extended IPL 2025 runs till June 3, MS Dhoni's current journey with the Chennai Super Kings will end in the group stages.

The former Indian captain, who is now 43 years old, continues to play for CSK, but the 2025 season has been tough. CSK struggled and were eliminated from the playoff race after managing only three wins from their first 12 matches. Their batting was the weakest among all teams and the bowlers also failed to maintain pressure throughout the season.
Dhoni himself has played in every match but has not batted often. He scored 180 runs in 12 matches, mostly while batting down the order. However, his strike rate of over 140 showed that he still has power and timing. His knee problems have affected his mobility, but he has kept wickets and led the team with the same calmness he is known for.
Ruturaj Gaikwad started the season as the captain for the Super Kings. But an injury to Gaikwad meant Dhoni had to take charge again. It is clear that the team still looks up to him for leadership and guidance.
There have been no clear statements from Dhoni about retirement. In one of his brief interviews, he said that he would take 10-12 months to think about the next season and assess his fitness. That shows he is still open to playing in IPL 2026.
Over the years, Dhoni has never made emotional decisions. He plans things carefully. If he feels fit and believes he can contribute, he may continue for one more season. His presence in the CSK dressing room is still very important, especially as the team goes through changes and younger players are brought in.
As it stands, MS Dhoni's
