IPL 2025: Ishan Kishan a SMASH hit for Sunrisers Hyderabad

Ishan Kishan set the IPL 2025 on fire with a blazing ton, the first in this edition of the premier T20 cricket event in Hyderabad as Sunrisers Hyderabad won a high-scoring match against Rajasthan Royals.

Sample this, 524 runs scored in one match, where Sanju Samson also attempted the chase for the Japur outfit. In the end, chasing a total of 286 was a bit too much.

Just before the match, Travis Head had sounded a warning. He said a score in excess of 300 was possible in the IPL. Was that a prediction or an ambitious thought, one did not know. Just that when Travis Heads settled into his aggressive rhythm, which defines him, he was going hammer and tong at the rival attack.

For new RR captain Riyan Parag, personally, this may have been a good match to lead. Maybe, his decision to bowl first was an error on a placid pitch where one could have landed a jumbo jet on the strip and it would still not have collapsed.

The Sunrisers batting firepower is known to all. It is not just hype as they have a star cast which can match the best in the world. At the top, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were the destroyers. Head was going so hard that he could have hit any bowler anywhere he wanted.

But the piece de resistance came from Ishan Kishan, a brilliant batter who had lost his way in between in his career. He was in blazing form, setting the venue on fire. His batting template was a reminder of what he had done for India in the past when he played.

Something had gone wrong in between and Ishan Kishan chose the big stage of the IPL today to explode like a potent bomb. This was explosive stuff all the way, a bit like a heavyweight boxer landing punches. Kishan had his gloves on, but they were of batting variety.

When he chose to attack, it was furious, with Jofra Archer getting the belt treatment. Ishan Kishan was severe to such an extent, that the RR bowlers were shivering. Sunrisers could have gone for even 300 with a bit of luck. They are going to attempt it for sure, since there is a method in the madness they have planned. It is an assault of the worst variety.

A 45-ball century for Ishan Kishan on his debut with the Hyderabad side was what fans wanted to see on a Sunday afternoon. But if you have a heart, spare a thought for the bowlers. They were being shredded, with Jofra, Archer, Mahesh Theekshana and Sandeep Sharma going for runs. Such was the dominance of the Sunrise batters none could have stopped them. It is easy to say the captaincy was bad from Parag, but on this day the Hyderabad side was ruthless.

To be sure, Rajasthan Royals also did not give up. Sanju Samson, returning from an injury break and playing as a batter scored 66 runs at a strike rate of 178.38. In the middle, Dhruv Jurel, now forgotten by Team India, scored 70 runs. He did chase brilliantly but was out to Adam Zampa. Lower down Shimron Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey were also flinging their bats.

It is clear, the batters are going to play fearless stuff in the IPL 2025 over the next two months. If Ishan Kishan and Travis Head were punitive and could have taken the total past 300, the chase attempted by RR was no less demonstrative of how the IPL has become a run fest. Sadly, when Ishan Kishan was injured later while fielding, he seemed in trouble. The knee injury details are awaited.
