IPL 2025: Jasprit Bumrah Unlikely to be Available For Mumbai Indians' First Three Matches - Report

By MyKhel Staff

Team India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to miss the first two weeks of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as he continues to recover from a back issue, delivering a slight blow to Mumbai Indians ahead of the season.

Bumrah, who picked up the back injury during the tour to Australia earlier this year, has been ruled out of action since then and also missed out on the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, where India has reached the final despite his absence.

The 31-year-old has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence, former the National Cricket Academy, in Bengaluru as he looks to gain fitness to return to action ahead of another packed schedule.

According to a report in Times of India (TOI), the Indian pacer may continue to remain on the sidelines as he is likely to miss the first week or two of the IPL and may only join the Mumbai Indians camp in April.

"Bumrah's medical reports are okay. He has resumed bowling at the CoE. However, it is unlikely he'll be able to bowl at the start of the IPL in another fortnight. As per current status, the first week of April looks a more realistic date for him to get back to high-intensity cricket," a BCCI source told TOI.

This will mean, Mumbai Indians will miss the services of their premier pacer for the first few matches. If Bumrah is joining the MI camp only in April, the speedster could miss at least three to four matches for the Mumbai Indians as he is yet to start bowling at full tilt.

"It's standard operating procedure. The medical team will gradually build up his workload and intensity. Unless he is able to bowl full tilt without any discomfort for some days, the medical team is unlikely to clear him," the source added.

Mumbai Indians open their IPL 2025 campaign at the home of their most biggest rivals - Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (March 23) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where they will also miss the services of captain Hardik Pandya, who serves a one-match ban carried forward from last season.

In Bumrah's absence, Deepak Chahar and New Zealand's Trent Boult, the two new arrivals, are expected to lead the pace attack when Mumbai Indians open their season in Chennai before travelling to Ahmedabad to take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the second match.

In March, Mumbai Indians will play their final fixture at home - Wankhede Stadium on March 31 against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). At the start of April, MI will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Mumbai.
