Defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reportedly approached former India head coach Rahul Dravid to takeover the mentor role vacated by former mentor Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir, who had his farewell at the franchise earlier this week, is all set to be named the new head coach of the Indian cricket team in the coming days. And in a sensational swap of roles, KKR wants Dravid to replace the out-going mentor.

According to a report in News18 Bangla, KKR is desperately in search of a replacement for Gambhir and they want to rope in Dravid as a coach or mentor for the 2025 season.
The report further added that the IPL franchise, which won the title last season under the mentorship of Gambhir, is also ready to offer a lucrative deal, one better than what Dravid earned during his stint as Team India head coach if he takes up the role.
Dravid ended his reign as Team India coach by guiding India to a T20 World Cup trophy. Following which, the former captain had joked that he would be "unemployed" next week and had the journalists in splits with his "any offers?" comment.
Apart from this rumour, Dravid has reportedly been approached by several other IPL franchise. So, it will be interesting to see if the former India head coach takes up a role in the immediate future or he will take time off to be with family and friends.
Dravid has previously served as a mentor for Rajasthan Royals between 2014 and 2015, as well as the Delhi Capitals in 2016. He has also served as head coach for the India U-19 and A teams.
The 51-year-old, who had a 16-year playing career, has played a key role in nurturing talent from the U-19 and A teams with Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Washington Sundar being some of the examples.
