KKR make unofficial captaincy approach to Suryakumar Yadav for IPL 2025

Suryakumar Yadav has been given an unofficial offer from the Kolkata Knight Riders for captaincy ahead of IPL 2025, as per reports.

Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, has been a phenomenon in the format over the past few years. The Indian batter is known for his immense batting quality but has been showcasing his captaincy qualities of late.

According to a Revsportz report, Kolkata Knight Riders have unofficially approached Suryakumar Yadav to lead their team in IPL 2025. This move might involve swapping current captain Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to the title in IPL 2024, for Suryakumar. However, it remains uncertain if Suryakumar will accept this offer.

Suryakumar's value has increased significantly since becoming India's T20I captain and winning the T20 World Cup 2024 with the national team. The batter was picked as the successor of Rohit Sharma in the T20 format for India and is respected for his leadership qualities.

Suryakumar's IPL Journey

Suryakumar began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders under Gautam Gambhir's leadership and was part of their 2014 championship squad. He later moved to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Nitish Rana. At Mumbai Indians, his performance improved steadily, making him a key player in their lineup.

In his IPL career so far, Suryakumar has scored 3594 runs in 150 matches at an average of 32.28 and a strike rate of 145.33. His ability to score runs consistently has made him one of the most valuable players in the league.

As Mumbai Indians' vice-captain, Suryakumar was initially seen as Rohit Sharma's successor, but the Paltans picked Hardik Pandya as captain in IPL 2024, which may be a telling factor in KKR's pursuit.
