Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have roped in left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya as a replacement for Umran Malik ahead of the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The Knight Riders announced the news on Sunday via a note as the left-arm pacer is set to return to his former team.

Umran, who was expected to bolster KKR's pace attack, has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The speedster had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru but did not receive medical clearance to participate in the season.
Sakariya, who has previously represented India in one ODI and two T20Is, brings IPL experience with 19 matches under his belt, claiming 20 wickets. Interestingly, the 26-year-old was part of KKR's squad in IPL 2024 but did not feature in any game. Now, he returns to the franchise with an opportunity to make an impact.
Sakariya also becomes the 13th player who will be continuing with the Knight Riders from the IPL 2024 season.
KKR have secured Sakariya's services for INR 75 lakh as they aim to strengthen their pace department ahead of the new season. Sakariya has been training with KKR in Kolkata and is expected to play their next practice match ahead of the IPL 2025 season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
