IPL 2025: In a move that blends promise with sentiment, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially roped in Madhya Pradesh's mystery spinner Shivam Shukla as a replacement for West Indies all-rounder Rovman Powell for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.

The franchise made the announcement public on Sunday morning, May 18, via their social media channels. "The mystery spinner from MP is a Knight now! Shivam Shukla replaces Rovman Powell for the remainder of the #TATAIPL2025,"

KKR tweeted at 10:01 AM, giving fans a new name to cheer for - albeit briefly - as the Knight Riders prepare for their final fixture of the season. The decision comes in the wake of Powell's unavailability due to a medical procedure.

Earlier, KKR had released a statement clarifying the absence of both Rovman Powell and Moeen Ali, citing medical reasons. "Rovman is undergoing a procedure," the franchise had confirmed, as IPL 2025 resumed after a 10-day break prompted by scheduling and logistical delays.

Who Is Shivam Shukla?

At 29, Shivam Shukla may be a fresh face in the IPL spotlight, but he’s no stranger to grinding it out in India’s domestic cricketing heartland. The mystery spinner from Madhya Pradesh made his T20 debut during the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, picking up eight wickets in eight games with an impressive economy of 6.30. His standout performance? A mesmerising 4/29 against Bengal, which turned heads in domestic circles.

But it was in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League where Shukla truly made his mark.
