IPL 2025: KKR vs LSG match set to Find new Home as Kolkata unable to host due to Ram Navami

The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 is under doubt.

Initially scheduled at Kolkata's Eden Gardens is facing relocation due to security concerns highlighted by the Kolkata Police.

The authorities have expressed their inability to ensure adequate security on April 6, the day the match was to be held, due to Ram Navami celebrations across the city. This has prompted discussions on finding an alternative venue for the encounter.

On the occasion of Ram Navami, numerous processions are expected throughout Kolkata, a factor that has raised security concerns. The Kolkata Police, alert to the potential for unrest, as evidenced in previous years during similar celebrations, have officially communicated their apprehensions to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

CAB supremo Snehasis Ganguly recently conveyed that the Kolkata Police has not given the nod ahead to conduct the match, and it looks like the authorities may not be able to deploy adequate security personnel at the Eden Gardens.

KKR had initially proposed that the match be played earlier in the day, concluding before nightfall to mitigate security concerns. The team's management believed that since the festivities of Ram Navami do not engulf the city to the extent of Durga Puja or Kali Puja celebrations, security arrangements could be managed more easily. However, the police have remained firm on their stance.

Where will KKR vs LSG match be played?

In light of these concerns, the match could be shifted to Guwahati. As per OneIndia Bengali, CAB sources have told them the match can be moved to the capital of Assam.

Notably, the Barsaapara Stadium in Guwahati is already slated to host two home games for the Rajasthan Royals, one of which includes a face-off with KKR. This precedent makes Guwahati a viable alternative for the KKR vs LSG match as well.
