IPL 2025: Lion-hearted performances from Prabhsimran and Arshdeep for muscular Punjab Kings

IPL 2025: What does one say about Punjab Kings, easily one of the most solid and consistent teams in the 2025 edition of the IPL.

Far from the madding crowd and hustle and bustle of the city, Shreyas Iyer's boys once again produced an explosive performance to entertain fans against Lucknow Super Giants at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday night.

IPL 2025

In sylvan settings, where the whole arena looks so different when compared with other concrete-jungle type stadia, Punjab Kings cemented their chances of a spot in the Playoffs with a 37-run win against LSG.

In pure IPL terms, such a huge victory margin matters as Punjab have now zoomed up to the second spot in the IPL points table. At 15 points from 11 matches, and a net run rate of +0.376, Punjab will want to keep engaging further. And the best part about Punjab Kings, the kind of cricket they played was in sync with the surroundings.

Watching Prabhsimran Singh go about his destruction job in the Indian Premier League, it is clear, here is a 24-year-old who is not chancing his arm but here to build a reputation for himself and the team. The kind of consistency he has shown is defining, though his 91 runs off 48 balls was as beautiful as the scenic venue that Dharamsala is.

This is a venue more known for its tourist footfall in summer. Of course, plenty of cricket has also been played here as well, including internationals. For an IPL big match to be held here, Punjab ensured they would up the 'rev' to flog LSG.

Sample this, Prabhsimran and Priyansh Arya have been the laying the foundation stone for Punjab Kings repeatedly in the IPL 2025 edition. Priyansh fell early but Prabhs, as fans have started addressing him, was in murderous form. The way the 24-year-old launched himself into shots of aggression and creativity caught the eye.

To say that he was harsh on fast bowler Mayank Yadav, all hype and no substance would not be an exaggeration. And the other bowler doing duty with the new ball, Akash Maharaj Singh was of course effective. For sheer build-up and being portrayed as a monster, Mayank has collapsed on the big stage that the IPL is.

To be sure, Prabhsimran Singh made full use of an early life. It took time for him to get a hang of the conditions as well. There was something in the wicket and conditions for fast bowlers, as demonstrated by Arshdeep, but Prabhsimran Singh was ready to play the patience game as well before smashing six sixes and seven fours.

If Prabhsriman Singh was batting on turbo charge mode, Shreyas Iyer showed once again why he is batting with calm bordering on serenity and leading the side with assurance. Shreyas scored a quickfire 45, where runs came from his blade in staccato-like bursts.

In 25 balls, he had made life hell for the LSG bowlers, where the pacers and spinners were taken to the cleaners. For Punjab, to post 236 runs was massive.

Totals like these are intimidating. And when the side batting second comes in, there is massive pressure. For sure, the failure of the Top 3 for LSG, when compared with other teams has been glaring.

If you sift through the stats in most teams, what has stood out is the top three bustling with the bat and putting on early runs. It is a template which has worked well, be it for Mumbai Indians, RCB or even Gujarat Titans.

No, not at LSG, where Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran fell to the guile and guts of Arshdeep Singh. The lanky Sardar is a rhythm bowler. In conditions like these, at high altitude, he was very much in the mood, as he instilled fear in the batters with movement and a menacing mental grip on the batters.

This kind of performance from Arshdeep Singh marks him out as the maestros of bowling with the left arm in the T20 format. He was making the ball do all kind of things, with an analysis of 4-0-16-3 being standout.

The variety in the Punjab attack was pronounced as Marco Jansen, tall and dangerous, Azmatullah Omarzai, and the gang choked LSG. The lower order did wag its tail after Ayush Badoni smashed 74 off 40 runs.

However, the man who is supposed to make a difference for LSG, Rishabh Pant, flopped. The way Pant has floundered in the IPL 2025 has been an embarrassment. Teams have figured him out and in the absence of a revision in the batting template, Pant looks so prosaic.

Pant the batter who was meant to destroy bowling attacks has failed. It is no secret, given the way the race for the Top 4 has intensified like 'war-type' aggro, LSG are down and out. There will be comparisons between leadership styles and performance, where Shryeas Iyer versus Rishabh Pant has become a no contest.

If social media will add fuel to fire on these two players in terms of auction prices of the two - Rs 27 crores versus Rs 26.75 crores, it is justified. Right now, it is 'paisa vasool' from a team like Punjab Kings.
