IPL 2025: LSG pacer Mayank Yadav set to miss First Half of Season - What Happened to Him?

By MyKhel Staff

A significant blow has struck the Lucknow Super Giants as they are set to lose Mayank Yadav partially in the IPL 2025.

The India pacer has been struggling off late with injury and as per a report from ESPNCricinfo, the youngster will be missing at least the first half of the season.

What happened to Mayank Yadav?

Yadav's absence is due to a lumbar stress injury sustained after his debut T20I series against Bangladesh in October last year. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has recently resumed bowling. His participation in the latter half of the tournament will depend on his recovery and fitness assessments.

LSG had retained Mayank for INR 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, reflecting the franchise's belief in his abilities. His absence in the initial stages of the tournament will be a significant challenge for the team.

Although its unconfirmed, MyKhel learned that the India pacer's participation will be depending on his recovery, and that can even mean him missing the IPL completely. The pacer is struggling with a left-sided lower back injury and earlier, LSG director Zaheer Khan said they are working closely for a roadmap of Mayank's recovery.

"We've had some interesting conversations on his roadmap to recovery and fitness with the NCA. We are working with them and hope for their support. He is not only important for LSG but also for Indian cricket," Zaheer had told Times of India.

Mayank Yadav Magic in IPL 2024

After missing the 2023 season due to injury, Mayank made a remarkable debut in IPL 2024. In his first match against the Punjab Kings, he delivered a match-winning performance, taking three wickets for 27 runs. During this game, he bowled the fastest ball of the season at 155.8 kmph. He surpassed his own record in the subsequent match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, clocking a delivery at 156.7 kmph and achieving figures of 3 wickets for 14 runs. These consecutive stellar performances earned him the Player of the Match awards in both games, making him the first player in IPL history to receive this honor in his first two matches.

His outstanding performances in the IPL also earned him an India call-up. The 22-year-old made his debut against Bangladesh and played three matches, picking up 4 wickets in the process.

LSG are set to commence their campaign this season with a match against Delhi in Vizag on March 24.
