IPL 2025, LSG vs CSK: Who was Unsung Hero in MS Dhoni's Match-Winning Knock in Lucknow?

By MyKhel Staff

LSG vs CSK Unsung Hero: While MS Dhoni rightly walked away with the Player of the Match award for his 11-ball 26 that helped Chennai Super Kings break their losing streak, the veteran was quick to point the spotlight elsewhere.

In his post-match comments, Dhoni acknowledged that the true unsung hero of the night was Noor Ahmad, whose crafty left-arm spin spell suffocated the Lucknow Super Giants' innings and played a pivotal role in CSK's five-wicket victory.

LSG vs CSK Unsung Hero IPL 2025

The match in Lucknow had its share of big moments. Rishabh Pant's fighting half-century, a strong CSK opening stand, and the Dhoni-Dube finish all made headlines. But beneath the glamour of big hits and celebrated milestones, Noor Ahmad quietly delivered a match-defining spell that tilted the scales in Chennai's favour long before Dhoni's fireworks.

Noor's figures-4 overs for just 13 runs-tell only half the story. It was the timing and control of his spell that made it extraordinary. Introduced in the powerplay when LSG were hoping to build momentum, Noor mixed flight with subtle variations in pace, tying down Pant and co. with remarkable precision.

Pant, despite reaching his first fifty of the season, managed only 6 runs off the 15 balls he faced from Noor-a strike rate of just 40. It was the second-worst return for a batter against any bowler in IPL history with a minimum of 15 deliveries faced.

Noor's spell created an invisible stranglehold on the LSG innings. While his name didn't feature in the wickets column, his overs were worth their weight in gold. They dried up boundaries, forced mistakes at the other end, and left Pant stranded with increasing pressure. By the time pace returned, LSG were unable to press on. Ravindra Jadeja's two wickets took the limelight in terms of breakthroughs, but it was Noor who kept the pressure relentless.

Dhoni, ever the keen tactician, recognised that impact. In the post-match ceremony, he remarked how Noor's spell deserved as much credit-if not more-for the turnaround. With LSG ending on just 166 for 7, their lowest total of the season, Noor's spell ensured CSK had a chaseable target despite their recent batting concerns.

Ironically, Noor didn't get a wicket, nor did he get the usual fanfare. Yet, his performance proved that T20 cricket, especially in high-pressure IPL contests, isn't always about the headline acts. Sometimes, it's about those tight, invisible spells that drain opposition momentum.

On a night when Dhoni the finisher returned and Dube added muscle at the death, it was the calm, calculating spell of Noor Ahmad that quietly laid the foundation. He may not have lifted the trophy or hugged the limelight, but in the eyes of his skipper and many cricketing purists, he was the night's unsung hero-deservedly so.
