IPL 2025 Mega Auction May be Heading to Riyadh; Know Possible Dates, Venue, and Key Details

By MyKhel Staff

The eagerly awaited IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the first for the tournament outside India. BCCI are yet to officially confirm the venue and dates of the auction.

However, multiple sources indicate that Riyadh is the likely host city, with final arrangements in progress. This auction aligns with India's first Test match against Australia in Perth, sparking concerns about scheduling overlap.

Disney Star holds the broadcasting rights for both events and is reportedly exploring ways to prevent scheduling conflicts, as the auction is expected to attract massive viewership. This season's auction promises to be a blockbuster.

It will feature star players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Ishan Kishan up for bidding. The intense competition to secure these marquee players is expected to lead to fierce bidding wars.

Each player will bring unique strengths, from Pant's aggressive style to Iyer's leadership skills. Many of these players were released by their previous franchises, sparking speculation about new team strategies and leadership changes for the upcoming IPL season.

A total of 46 players were retained by the franchises, with an emphasis on Indian talent-36 of the retained players are Indian, including 10 uncapped prospects. Notably, no England players were retained this year.

Several of them faced availability issues due to international commitments. Big names like Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran are now available in the auction pool, setting the stage for potential reassignments among franchises.

The retention decisions have shaped teams' auction budgets significantly. The Punjab Kings hold the largest auction purse with ₹110.5 crore, while the Rajasthan Royals have the smallest at ₹41 crore.

Key franchises such as Mumbai Indians, with a robust Indian core led by Hardik Pandya, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, with only three retentions including Virat Kohli, are poised to make strategic purchases to reinforce their squads.

The move to Saudi Arabia has prompted franchises to push for finalization of the logistics and venue details to facilitate smooth travel and planning. This international expansion highlights the IPL's growing global appeal and sets the stage for an exciting two-day event that promises to reshape team line-ups for IPL 2025.
