IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Possible Date, Venue, Remaining Purse & Slots of All Teams After Retention

With the retention deadline out of the way, the attention now switches to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction, where all 10 teams will look to finalize their squads for the upcoming season.

On the retention deadline day (Thursday, October 31), a total of 46 players were retained across teams, taking away a good chunk of some franchises' purses before the big auction.

Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders used up all 6 slots of their retention, while Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans all made 5 retentions. All these teams will need to add at least 12-13 players for a minimum squad.

Delhi Capitals made four retentions, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings made the fewest retentions, having retained just 3 and 2 players respectively, and head into the auction with the biggest purses.

IPL 2025 Remaining Purse and Slots of All Teams

The retention deadline day also saw some big Indian and overseas players being released by their respective teams into the auction. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell and Ishan Kishan were among several that were let go, making the auction one of the most anticipated in IPL history.

The teams will be in bidding war for these players and more. But, when is the auction taking place and where? Here is a look at the potential dates and venues for the IPL Mega Auction 2025:

When will IPL 2025 Mega Auction Take Place?

The next IPL Mega Auction will be a two-day process like in 2022. In 2022, the auction took place in February, while the 2023 and 2024 auctions were held in December. But, the IPL 2025 Auction date has been brought forward to November 2024. There is still no official confirmation of the dates.

Several dates have been doing the rounds on the internet with the auction likely to be held in the last week of November. Earlier reports suggested, the IPL Mega Auction 2025 could be held on November 23 and 24, and even on November 30. However, latest reports indicate the IPL Auction Dates will be on November 24 and 25.

Where will IPL 2025 Mega Auction take place?

The last IPL Mega Auction 2022 was held in Bengaluru at a private hotel, while the 2023 and 2024 editions were held in new locations - Kerala and UAE respectively. The 2024 auction was the first time, the bidding process was held outisde India as it was staged in Dubai.

It is very clear that the upcoming big auction also will be held outside India with Singapore, London, Dubai being considered. But recent reports suggest that Riyadh in Saudi Arabia is likely to be the venue for the IPL Auction 2025.
