IPL 2025: Mitchell Marsh Hammers GT with Historic Ton, First Overseas Player to Hit Century This Season

IPL 2025: In a night painted in boundaries and blistering sixes, Mitchell Marsh announced his arrival in IPL 2025 with a thunderous century for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), becoming the first overseas batter this season to notch up a three-figure score.

The Aussie powerhouse smashed a commanding 117 off just 64 deliveries against Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Stadium, leaving fans and bowlers alike awestruck by his brute power and exquisite timing.

Opening the innings with South Africa's Aiden Markram, Marsh took little time to get into the groove. The duo stitched together a 91-run stand in just 9.5 overs, laying the perfect foundation.

Markram chipped in with 36 off 24, but it was Marsh who stole the limelight, racing to his maiden IPL ton in 56 balls, laced with 10 boundaries and 8 monstrous sixes. "It was just one of those nights where everything clicked. I felt good in the nets and I'm glad it came together today," Marsh said after his innings.

The 33-year-old right-hander didn't just stop at a century. He carried on the carnage with Nicholas Pooran at the other end, putting on a whirlwind 121-run partnership for the second wicket in only 52 balls. Pooran was electric himself, scoring 56* off 27 balls, but Marsh's controlled aggression stood tall as the defining knock of the innings.

Hundreds for LSG in IPL

  • 140* - Quinton de Kock vs KKR, 2022
  • 124* - Marcus Stoinis vs CSK, 2024
  • 117 - Mitchell Marsh vs GT, 2025*
  • 103* - KL Rahul vs MI, 2022

Marsh reached his century in the 17th over with a single off Arshad Khan, following a powerful drive for four. Then came the fireworks - two consecutive sixes off Prasidh Krishna that lit up the Lucknow sky. His innings finally ended in the 19th over when he tried to go big once again, only to find Sherfane Rutherford at deep backward point. But the damage was already done - Marsh walked off to a standing ovation after etching his name into IPL history.

His 117 is now the third-highest individual score for LSG in IPL history, behind only Quinton de Kock's 140* in 2022 and Marcus Stoinis' 124* last season. He also recorded the third-fastest hundred in LSG colours and equalled KL Rahul's record for most fifty-plus scores (6) in a season for the franchise.

In an emotional parallel, Marsh's century also adds a golden chapter to the league's folklore - making him and his elder brother Shaun Marsh, who scored a ton for Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural 2008 edition, the first pair of brothers to record centuries in the history of the IPL. A proud moment, not just for Marsh but for the Marsh family legacy.

Thanks to his heroics, LSG posted a daunting 235/2 in 20 overs - their highest total of the season. With Gujarat Titans chasing a mountain, Marsh's blistering knock may well go down as the turning point of their campaign.

Score Summary (1st innings):

  • Mitchell Marsh 117 (64), Nicholas Pooran 56* (27), Aiden Markram 36 (24)
