IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit has seen some incredible performances over the years, but Mitchell Starc’s fiery spell in Visakhapatnam during the 2025 IPL season has etched his name in the franchise’s record books.
Playing just his second match for DC, Starc became only the second bowler from the franchise to pick up a five-wicket haul in IPL history. More remarkably, this was the first five-for in Starc’s 144-match T20 career.

The Australian pacer’s spell of 5/35 against Sunrisers Hyderabad not only powered Delhi to victory but also earned him his third IPL Player of the Match award in just four games. Starc also joined an elite club as the 32nd bowler to take a five-wicket haul in an IPL innings, becoming the 23rd pacer and one of only 12 overseas players to achieve this feat.
| Rank | Bowler | Bowling Figures | Opponent | Venue | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rajat Bhatia | 4/15 (2.4 overs) | Deccan Chargers | Durban | 2009 |
| 2 | Kuldeep Yadav | 4/14 (3 overs) | Kolkata Knight Riders | Wankhede Stadium | 2022 |
| 3 | Amit Mishra | 4/11 (3 overs) | Kings XI Punjab | Feroz Shah Kotla | 2016 |
| 4 | Mitchell Starc | 5/35 (3.4 overs) | Sunrisers Hyderabad | Visakhapatnam | 2025 |
| 5 | Amit Mishra | 5/17 (4 overs) | Deccan Chargers | Feroz Shah Kotla | 2008 |
Back in 2009, medium-pacer Rajat Bhatia delivered one of the finest spells in Delhi’s IPL history. His 2.4-0-15-4 against Deccan Chargers in Durban played a crucial role in bowling out the opposition for 161 in a chase of 174.
Bhatia’s ability to pick up wickets at regular intervals was the highlight of the match, dismissing hard-hitting overseas stars Andrew Symonds and Dwayne Smith. His efforts ensured that Delhi emerged victorious, cementing his place among the franchise’s best bowling performances.
Kuldeep Yadav’s spell against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 was a turning point in DC’s season. Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, the left-arm wrist-spinner delivered career-best IPL figures of 4/14 in three overs.
Kuldeep struck early, removing Baba Indrajith and Sunil Narine off consecutive deliveries. He returned in his third over to claim the prized scalps of Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell, reducing KKR to 83/6. With Delhi chasing down a modest 147-run target, Kuldeep was rightfully named Player of the Match.
Mishra finds himself on this list for a second time, thanks to his outstanding spell against Kings XI Punjab in 2016. His 3-0-11-4 performance played a crucial role in restricting Punjab to just 111/9 at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
Brought into the attack immediately after the powerplay, Mishra made an impact on his very first ball, dismissing Shaun Marsh. He followed it up with the wickets of David Miller and Glenn Maxwell in the ninth over before removing a well-set Manan Vohra in his third over, effectively sealing Punjab’s fate.
Starc’s spell against SRH will be remembered as one of the most destructive performances by a DC bowler. His impact was immediate, as he dismissed Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy within three deliveries in his second over.
Captain Axar Patel’s decision to bowl Starc for a third consecutive over proved to be a masterstroke, as the left-arm speedster sent Travis Head back to the pavilion with an edge to KL Rahul behind the stumps. In the penultimate over of the match, Starc cleaned up Harshal Patel and Wiaan Mulder, sealing the victory and completing his five-wicket haul.
Amit Mishra, one of the finest leg-spinners in IPL history, was a key figure in Delhi’s campaign during the inaugural season. His stunning 5/17 against Deccan Chargers at the Feroz Shah Kotla (now Arun Jaitley Stadium) was instrumental in securing a narrow 12-run win.
Mishra’s spell was particularly crucial in a high-scoring game where every other DC bowler went for over eight runs per over. His dismissals of Shahid Afridi and Herschelle Gibbs within seven deliveries turned the game in Delhi’s favour. Mishra remains the only spinner in DC’s history to claim a five-wicket haul.
With Mitchell Starc now joining this elite list, Delhi Capitals' bowling legacy continues to grow stronger in the IPL. Fans will be eager to see if any DC bowler can surpass these remarkable feats in the coming seasons.
