IPL 2025: Mohammed Siraj has once again made the new ball talk, this time with record-breaking consequences.
The fiery Gujarat Titans pacer reached a monumental milestone on Sunday as he completed 100 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL), becoming just the 26th bowler in the history of the league to achieve the feat.

His clinical performance helped Gujarat Titans put Sunrisers Hyderabad on the back foot in a vital IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
After Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first, Siraj wasted no time in delivering damage. The Sunrisers, already reeling from a series of underwhelming performances, were hoping for a turnaround at home. But Siraj had other plans.
He struck in his very first over, removing the dangerous Travis Head for just 8 runs. The left-hander had clipped Siraj for two early boundaries, but the pacer had the last laugh. In what has become one of the season’s more intense rivalries, the contest between Head and Siraj was once again spiced up—especially considering their on-field exchanges during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.
Siraj continued to wreak havoc and returned in the fifth over to remove Abhishek Sharma for 18. The in-form left-hander was starting to find his rhythm, but a mistimed shot saw Rahul Tewatia take a well-judged catch, leaving SRH in deep trouble inside the powerplay.

With Abhishek's wicket, Siraj joined the elite list of bowlers who have taken 100 wickets in the IPL. He is now the 26th player overall and the 12th Indian pacer to breach the 100-wicket mark. He achieved the landmark in his 97th match, boasting an economy of 8.65 and an average of just over 29.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Siraj has now taken 42 wickets in powerplay overs-an outstanding feat that underlines his reputation as one of the most dangerous bowlers with the new ball.
With this performance, Siraj continues his charge up the Purple Cap leaderboard. He has now taken eight wickets in just four matches this season, trailing only Noor Ahmad and Mitchell Starc. What's more impressive is that six of those wickets have come in the powerplay, the most by any bowler in IPL 2025 so far.
The Gujarat Titans' think tank has strategically used him to set the tone in the opening overs, and Siraj has delivered with consistency and aggression.
Siraj's IPL story is one of persistence and rise through the ranks. He began his journey with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 after being picked up for ₹2.6 crore from a base price of just ₹20 lakh. That season, he impressed with 10 wickets in six matches, earning praise for his raw pace and aggressive intent.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru saw potential and roped him in for ₹2.20 crore ahead of the 2018 season. Over the next six years with RCB, he became a central figure in their pace attack, claiming 83 wickets in 87 matches. However, with the mega auction for IPL 2025 looming, RCB opted not to retain him-a decision that raised a few eyebrows.
Gujarat Titans, however, went all in and splurged ₹12.25 crore for his services in the Jeddah mega auction. Siraj, who had listed his base price at ₹2 crore, found himself at the heart of a fierce bidding war. The move has clearly paid dividends for the Titans.
GT captain Shubman Gill made a bold call by bringing in all-rounder Washington Sundar in place of pacer Arshad Khan. The team management expected the black soil pitch at Hyderabad to assist spinners, and Sundar, making his debut for the Titans, was trusted to make an impact.
On the other hand, SRH were forced to replace Harshal Patel, who has taken ill, with veteran left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat.
But it was Siraj's spell that truly set the tone. His early strikes snuffed out SRH's hopes of a blazing start. In his first three overs, Siraj conceded only 14 runs and took two crucial wickets, choking the hosts during the powerplay.
With his current form and confidence, Mohammed Siraj is fast emerging as Gujarat’s talisman in their quest for a playoff spot. His ability to strike early and break partnerships is proving invaluable.
If he continues to deliver such fiery opening spells, the Purple Cap may not be far from his grasp.
“It’s always special to perform at this level and help the team. Getting to 100 wickets is a proud moment, but the job is far from done. I want to keep winning matches for my side,” Siraj was quoted as saying after the game.
As the IPL 2025 continues to throw up surprises, Mohammed Siraj's milestone is a testament to his resilience, hard work, and evolution as one of India's premier fast bowlers. From being a raw talent in 2017 to now a certified match-winner, Siraj's journey has come full circle—and he’s still steaming in.
