IPL 2025: MS Dhoni gives major update on his retirement, CSK fans will certainly love it

By MyKhel Staff

IPL 2025: MS Dhoni has once again sparked excitement among Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans with a major update on his retirement plans ahead of the franchise's opening match against Mumbai Indians on March 23.

In a statement that encapsulates his deep connection with the franchise, Dhoni said, "I can play for as long as I want for CSK. That's my franchise. Even if I'm in a wheelchair, they'll drag me." This declaration comes ahead of CSK's much-anticipated IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians, reinforcing his commitment to the team.

MS Dhoni retirement IPL 2025

The legendary cricketer, who stepped down as CSK's skipper last year after leading them to five IPL titles, remains a vital presence in the squad. With persistent knee issues that required surgery in 2023, Dhoni's role this season is expected to be primarily as a wicketkeeper and pinch-hitter. However, his influence extends far beyond the playing field, continuing to guide the team with his tactical acumen and leadership experience.

Dhoni's latest remarks counter growing speculation that IPL 2025 will be his final season. Just weeks ago, fans were sent into a frenzy when he was spotted wearing a T-shirt featuring Morse code that reportedly translated to "One last time." This cryptic fashion choice reignited retirement discussions, given Dhoni's history of announcing major decisions in understated ways-like his sudden international retirement in 2020 via an Instagram post.

Despite the whispers of an impending farewell, Dhoni's latest statement suggests he isn't ready to hang up his boots just yet. The 43-year-old continues to find motivation in the game, emphasising his passion for cricket as the driving force behind his extended IPL career.

"For me, my biggest motivation was that contribution to make India win. Now that I've retired from international cricket, I can't say it's the same, but for me now, it's the love for the sport," he shared at a promotional event in Chennai.

With 264 IPL matches under his belt, Dhoni has amassed 5243 runs at an impressive average of 39.13 and a strike rate of 137.54, including 24 half-centuries. His experience and finishing prowess remain invaluable to CSK, even as questions about his future linger.

As CSK embarks on another IPL campaign, the franchise and its fans can take solace in Dhoni's assurance that he isn't going anywhere -- at least, not without a fight. Whether 2025 is indeed his swansong or just another chapter in his storied career, one thing is certain: MS Dhoni remains the heartbeat of Chennai Super Kings.
