Chennai Super Kings have made a shortlist for retentions ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
As the IPL 2025 beckons, a fresh mega auction will be held. As the franchises try to put together the retentions, CSK are reportedly looking forward to retaining five players.

Although BCCI is still mulling over the number of retained players, the number can be anything between four to eight, along with a number of Right to Match cards. As per reports, CSK have already picked five names for retention.
MS Dhoni is going to be one of the names in the retention list as Chennai Super Kings eye to primarily retain the core. The veteran is likely to play his final IPL season next year and the swansong will fittingly be with the Super Kings, a franchise he has led to 5 IPL trophies.
Along with that, current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is tipped to be retained, whereas former captain and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also made the cut. As per a report from RevSportz, CSK are eyeing to keep Shivam Dube for the next season. The final name in their retention wish is Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who has already become a key figure in the team.
MS Dhoni, the legendary player will be slotted in the lowest payment bracket as per mutual agreement. The 43-year-old has been a stalwart for the franchise and is likely to play an integral part next year.
CSK had an underwhelming outing in the IPL 2024 as they finished 5th in the table, thus missing out on the playoffs. As the Super Kings franchise aims to continue strategizing their team for the next few seasons, Gaikwad looks set to be their leader. Pathirana, on the other hand, is another top talent and can be another mainstay for the franchise in coming years.
