Chennai Super Kings' forgettable IPL 2025 campaign may have ended in disappointment, but MS Dhoni remains focused on the future. With CSK languishing at the bottom of the table after losing eight of their first ten games, their playoff hopes are long gone.
However, the former India captain, who has taken over the leadership once again following Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury, is determined to use the remaining four matches to lay the groundwork for next season.

At the toss ahead of their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dhoni opted to bowl first and spoke candidly about CSK's current priorities. "We are looking to bowl first. We want to make the most of the last four games we have got. Try to look into next year and which individual will fit into what role," he said, signalling a clear shift towards experimentation and team-building.
Dhoni acknowledged that while the franchise still aims to win matches, the emphasis is now on player development and role clarity. "Yes, we want to win games but getting the most of the four games is important," he added.
The legendary skipper, who returned to the helm after Gaikwad suffered a hairline fracture on his right hand, has already made significant changes to the side. Promising youngsters like Shaikh Rasheed, Ayush Mhatre, and Dewald Brevis have been given opportunities in the top-order - a sign that CSK is actively grooming future stars.
However, results haven't gone CSK's way. The team, which once prided itself on turning Chepauk into a fortress, has lost five matches at home this season - a first in their storied history. Despite the setbacks, Dhoni's leadership has brought a sense of calm and purpose as the squad looks to rebuild.
Commenting on the pitch conditions in Bengaluru, Dhoni observed, "It seems tacky, must have been under covers for quite some time. Other than that, it is a venue where scoring runs is easy. It is a high-scoring venue and after the initial start it will be quite good to bat on."
He also emphasized the need for players to stick to their strengths and back themselves. "It is important to express, but the batters need to play to their strengths. If you are a bowler, don't think what if the execution is not right - make a plan and bowl with full confidence."
While CSK will not feature in the playoffs this season, Dhoni's measured approach and focus on building a balanced squad for 2026 provides hope for the franchise's loyal fans. The remaining matches offer a crucial testing ground - not just for young talent, but also for Dhoni and the think tank to assess what combinations may define the next era of CSK cricket.
With Dhoni at the helm once again, the Yellow Army may be down, but they are far from out.
