IPL 2025: Nitish Kumar Reddy to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad, set to join camp

By MyKhel Staff

IPL 2025: Young Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has received fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), now the BCCI Centre of Excellence, and is set to join Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) camp ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

According to PTI, Reddy successfully completed all fitness assessments, including the yo-yo test, marking his return after recovering from a side strain injury sustained in January during the first T20I against England.

Nitish Kumar Reddy SRH IPL 2025

Nitish Kumar Reddy made a name for himself during IPL 2024, where he was named the Emerging Player of the Season. The 21-year-old all-rounder played a pivotal role in SRH's journey to the final, amassing 303 runs across 15 matches at an average of 33.67 and an impressive strike rate of 142.92.

He also registered two half-centuries, with a highest score of 76* and chipped in with three wickets across 13 matches. Despite his standout performances, SRH fell short in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), finishing as runners-up.

Following his stellar IPL season, Reddy earned a national call-up and made his T20I debut against Bangladesh. His red-ball prowess was on display during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia, where he emerged as India's second-highest run-getter.

The highlight of his early international career came during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where he smashed his maiden century, reinforcing his reputation as a rising star in Indian cricket.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Reddy, solidifying their core team. Led by Pat Cummins, the squad boasts a formidable lineup, including Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Ishan Kishan.

SRH will begin their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. After narrowly missing out on the title last season, the Cummins-led side is determined to go one step further and claim their second IPL trophy since their triumph in 2016.

Reddy made his IPL debut in 2023 but played only two matches without scoring any runs or picking up wickets. However, he showcased his talent in IPL 2024, finishing with 303 runs and three wickets. Across 18 T20 innings, he has accumulated 485 runs at an average of 32.33, further establishing himself as a promising all-rounder.

With his fitness now cleared, Nitish Kumar Reddy's return strengthens SRH's squad, and fans will be eager to see if he can replicate his IPL 2024 heroics in the upcoming season.
