Lucknow Super Giants are at crossroads with their captain KL Rahul as the India batter is set to be released ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Despite his substantial contributions, Rahul has been contemplating an exit from LSG, especially after his proposal to bat in the middle order was turned down by the team management.

The IPL's governing body has established October 31 as the final date for franchises to finalize their rosters, including decisions on retaining and releasing players. LSG, in particular, is faced with decisions on player retention, and while there's speculation about exercising the Right To Match (RTM) card for players.
The franchise is aiming to keep Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, and Ayush Badoni. The final two player will be retained as uncapped players for LSG.
Rahul's journey in the IPL has been notable, marked by his impressive batting prowess and leadership skills. He led the team to a playoff place in their debut season but things turned sour in IPL 2024 which also sparked controversy. After a defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, KL Rahul was publicly reprimanded by the owner Sanjeev Goenka.
Amid this, Rahul is set to feature in the auction. Although the Super Giants can exercise the RTM card on him, they are unlikely to use that. As per reports, the franchise may look to use the RTM card to bring back Marcus Stoinis for the next IPL cycle.
The 35-year-old has been part of the LSG squad for the last three years and the franchise are keen on keeping him. Stoinis scored 388 runs for them last season and also picked up 4 wickets with the ball.
