As the IPL 2025 retention deadline nears, anticipation is building regarding the players who shall be staying, and the ones who shall have to seek pastures new.
The ten franchise's retention submission deadline is today (October 31) and BCCI is likely to announce the full list of retained players ahead of the auction in November.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are reportedly keen to keep four players, while the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians may retain as many as five players.
The IPL has increased the auction purse to Rs 120 crore this season, but a significant chunk of the pool will be splashed if the franchises retain the full quota of their permeable retentions. If a franchise keep five capped players, they will be slashed Rs 75 crore, whereas any uncapped retention will cost Rs 4 crore (max 2 uncapped retentions).
Sunrisers Hyderabad, the beaten finalists from IPL 2024, are set to invest Rs 75 crore in their five retentions, which curbs their auction purse to just Rs 45 crore. Similarly, if reports are true, KKR may go into the auction with Rs 73 crore.
Amid this, Punjab Kings are likely to create an IPL record as the franchise is likely to head into the auction with the biggest purse ever history. PBKS, a team that had another dismal outing last season, is tipped to go with just two uncapped retentions, which will see them spending just Rs 8 crore ahead of the auction.
It means the Kings can head into the auction with a potential purse of Rs 112 crore, the biggest by any team in the history of IPL auctions.
