IPL 2025: PBKS Troll Rishabh Pant With Sly 'Auction' Dig After Punjab Beat LSG By 8 Wickets

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign in impressive fashion, securing back-to-back wins that have propelled them to second place on the points table.

Their latest triumph came on Tuesday night, as they convincingly defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in an away fixture.

However, the victory wasn't the only thing making headlines-PBKS also took the opportunity to cheekily remind LSG captain Rishabh Pant of his past comments regarding the franchise.

Pant, who was unveiled as LSG captain earlier this year, had recalled in an interview how he felt nervous during the IPL mega auction last season. He admitted that his biggest concern was PBKS, given that they had the highest purse of ₹110.5 crore, which was actually a sly dig at the franchise. His fear was that the franchise might outbid others to sign him, but he was relieved when they instead spent ₹26.75 crore to acquire Shreyas Iyer. Eventually, LSG made history by signing Pant for a record ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL auction history.

Despite the massive expectations, Pant's stint as LSG captain has had a rough start. His team has lost two of their first three matches, and his personal performances have been underwhelming-managing only 17 runs across three innings, including a duck. Against PBKS, he was dismissed for just two runs by Glenn Maxwell.

Following their win, PBKS took a lighthearted jab at Pant on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Sharing a clip of their captain Shreyas Iyer, the franchise wrote, "Tension toh auction mein hi khatam ho gayi thi!" (Our worries ended at the auction itself!).

Meanwhile, Pant was later seen in an animated discussion with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, adding to the intrigue. With this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants have slipped to sixth in the standings and will look to bounce back when they face five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their next match.
