IPL 2025, PBKS vs RR: Archer, Yashasvi shine as Royals put an end to Kings' Invincibility at Mullanpur

By MyKhel Staff

Rajasthan Royals produced a clinical performance to hand Punjab Kings a 50-run defeat in Match 18 of IPL 2025, played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur.

The win was built on a solid batting display followed by a disciplined bowling effort, ensuring PBKS succumbed to their first defeat of the season.

PBKS vs RR

Put in to bat first, Rajasthan Royals made the most of favorable conditions. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal found form in style, anchoring the innings with a composed 67 off 45 balls that included three boundaries and five towering sixes. He was well supported by skipper Sanju Samson, who struck a fluent 38 as the duo added 85 runs for the opening wicket.

Riyan Parag provided the finishing touches with a fiery unbeaten 43, guiding the Royals to an imposing 205/4 in their 20 overs. While Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the Punjab bowlers with figures of 2 for 37, the rest of the attack struggled to contain Rajasthan's aggressive batting unit.

In reply, Punjab Kings got off to the worst possible start. Jofra Archer struck with the very first ball of the innings, cleaning up Priyansh Arya before sending back captain Shreyas Iyer later in the same over. Reduced to 11/2 early, PBKS were always on the back foot in the tall chase.

Nehal Wadhera fought hard in the middle order with a well-made 62, and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with a handy 30, but the required run-rate kept soaring. The Rajasthan bowlers maintained relentless pressure, with Sandeep Sharma and Maheesh Theekshana supporting Archer in strangling the middle and lower order.

Eventually, Punjab Kings could only muster 155/9 in their 20 overs, falling short by a hefty margin of 50 runs.

PBKS vs RR Brief Scores

Rajasthan Royals: 205/4 (Jaiswal 67, Parag 43*, Ferguson 2/37)

Punjab Kings: 155/9 (Wadhera 62, Maxwell 30, Archer 3/25)

Result: Rajasthan Royals won by 50 runs

The win marked Rajasthan's second on the trot, pushing them further up the points table. For Punjab, it was a reality check after a promising start, and they'll need to bounce back quickly as the tournament progresses.
