IPL 2025: Performance is paramount- How Mumbai Indians plan to get a winning start!

IPL 2025: Whether they win the IPL trophy for the sixth time or not - Mumbai Indians mean business. They want to be ruthless as far as getting their house in order is concerned.

Leaving out an injured or half-injured Rohit Sharma from the line-up against Lucknow Super Giants to retiring out a struggling youngster like Tilak Verma from the game - it's all happening in the Mumbai camp.

IPL 2025

Not that this team is desperate for a trophy as much as getting the culture of team spirit back to build on the legacy created by this team.

Mumbai Indians aren't perturbed about the losses but they are disturbed about indiscipline. Be it the players using their free time on playing games rather than resting - Hardik Pandya, support staff and the promoters want the house in order. Already, communication to all the retained players have gone from the owners - not to repeat those mistakes that held them back from making an impact in IPL.

With Rohit; not in his best flow and struggling with his fitness - it seems unclear whether he will continue to play for Mumbai next year or not. Not that the team has any animosity with Rohit but it's has to be performance driven.

Even a legend like Ricky Ponting had to go and pass on the baton to a young Rohit and the transition was quite smooth. A similar situation has come, wherein, this team is going through a transition again but at the cost of bad blood.

Both the owners and management have a common agenda and that is to promote good performances and there won't be any compromise on that. In this team, reputation never mattered and today the story hasn't changed.

By retiring out Tilak in the LSG game, the management has made it clear that it is only performance for the team that would be the focal point and this is applicable for all. Be it Rohit or Tilak.

Whether Rohit is unfit or dropped - it's does not matter to Mumbai. That is because Rohit has been struggling with fitness and form for a while. His left-leg hamstring injury has been with him for five years and if this injury is making his performance dip, he is naturally going to be get dropped.

Therefore, Rohit was dropped from the playing XI to bring in transparency and accountability. Similarly, Tilak was retired out to remind each and every player in the squad that team is important than individual. That is what we call it a winning start!
