In a groundbreaking announcement BCCI secretary Jay Shah has announced the new era of the Indian Premier League

The franchises will allocate Rs 12.60 crore as match fees for the season. Each player, playing a match in the IPL will now receive Rs 7.5 lakh, which is separate from their original contract amount.

Hence it means if a player plays all the matches for his franchise in an IPL tournament, he shall receive a mammoth Rs 1.05 crore extra as a match fee along with the contract amount in the auction.

"In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the #IPL, we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers! A cricketer playing all league matches in a season will get Rs. 1.05 crores in addition to his contracted amount. Each franchise will allocate INR 12.60 crores as match fees for the season! This is a new era for the #IPL and our players," Shah announced on X.

Indeed it is a massive moment in the IPL as the match fee is introduced for the first time in the league as it continues to grow bigger in the realms of cricket. It also means if an uncapped player is bought at his base price of Rs 20 Lakh (the minimum base price in IPL till now), he will have an opportunity to earn an extra Rs 1.05 crore provided he plays all the matches for the franchise in the season.

What is interesting is that the players' match fee will be considered only till the group stages as IPL consists of 14 group stage matches. It is unclear as of now if the same match fee system will persist during the playoffs.
