IPL 2025: Cheteshwar Pujara Hail's KL Rahul's Positive Mindset Shift For Enhanced Performance

Cheteshwar Pujara believes KL Rahul has left behind the struggles of his previous season with Lucknow Super Giants. This shift in mindset is benefiting him at Delhi Capitals and could also strengthen his role in the Indian team.

Rahul's recent performance, scoring his third fifty of the season, led Delhi Capitals to a decisive eight-wicket victory over his former team, LSG, in Lucknow.

Rahul's ability to move on from past setbacks is crucial for his success. Pujara commented on ESPNcricinfo's TimeOut, "Just move on, don't carry any baggage from the past. And that's a good thing. KL is a mature player. Last couple of years, he's been batting well across formats." This mindset allows Rahul to focus on enjoying his game without dwelling on previous mistakes.

KL Rahul's Performance and Mindset

Under Rahul's leadership, LSG reached the play-offs in 2022 and 2023. However, they ended up seventh last season. His relationship with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka soured, especially after a viral video showed Goenka reprimanding him publicly following a loss. Subsequently, the franchise released Rahul before the mega auctions.

At Delhi Capitals, Rahul has become the leading run-scorer this season with 323 runs in seven innings. Pujara noted that Rahul appears more mature and understands his game better now. "We have seen a different KL Rahul this season," Pujara said. Despite initial struggles against LSG, he adapted quickly.

Impact of Captaincy on KL Rahul

Former England opener Nick Knight suggested that not having captaincy duties might be liberating for Rahul. "Captaincy can do funny things to you - sometimes you thrive on it, sometimes it's a burden," Knight remarked. He added that playing without the pressure of leadership might allow Rahul to enjoy the game more.

Knight also pointed out cricket's tendency to assume the best player should be captain. "We've got this obsession in cricket that the best player has to be captain. That's not always the case, is it?" he said. While not directly referring to Rahul or Rishabh Pant, Knight observed that Rahul seems more relaxed and free at the crease.

Pujara believes this fresh approach will benefit both Delhi Capitals and the Indian team as they rely on Rahul's batting prowess. By focusing on current performances rather than past failures, Rahul can continue to excel in various formats for India.
