IPL 2025: Rain Forces KKR vs PBKS Clash at Eden Gardens to End in No Result

KKR vs PBKS: In an anticlimactic end to what promised to be an exciting contest, the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens was called off due to persistent rain and stormy weather.

The two sides shared points after just one over of the second innings was possible.

KKR vs PBKS

Earlier, Punjab Kings, after opting to bat first, posted a formidable total of 201/4 in their 20 overs. Young Priyansh Arya (69 off 35) and Prabhsimran Singh (83 off 49) led the charge with blazing half-centuries. KKR did manage to pull things back slightly at the death, thanks to tight bowling from Andre Russell (3-0-27-1) and Vaibhav Arora (4-0-34-2), despite off-days for Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, both conceding runs at nearly 9 an over.

Chasing 202, KKR were 7/0 after the first over when rain and gusty winds disrupted play. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (1* off 3) and Sunil Narine (4* off 3) were at the crease. However, heavy winds made it difficult for groundstaff to manage the covers, with visuals showing covers flying and staff struggling to hold them down. The playing square was covered quickly, but strong winds complicated the situation.

As the rain continued and worsened, the chances of a restart dwindled. Despite brief hopes of resumption when the rain slowed and KKR players were seen warming up, showers returned with intensity, causing further delays. Finally, at 22:58 local time, officials decided to call off the match, resulting in the first no-result of IPL 2025.

It was a disappointing outcome, particularly for Punjab Kings, who were in a strong position after their batting effort. Nevertheless, the shared point could prove crucial in their playoff hunt.

Adding to the chaos, a rare and unprecedented power outage hit Eden Gardens amid the storm, plunging the club house, VIP areas, corporate boxes, and even the press box into darkness for several minutes, though the stadium's floodlights continued to function.

Match Summary

Punjab Kings: 201/4 (Priyansh Arya 69, Prabhsimran Singh 83; Vaibhav Arora 2/34)

Kolkata Knight Riders: 7/0 (after 1 over)

Result: Match Abandoned - No Result

Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
