Veteran Gujarat Titans (GT) leg-spinner Rashid Khan has etched his name in the record books by becoming the third-fastest bowler to take 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Afghanistan superstar reached the milestone during GT's IPL 2025 opener against Punjab Kings (PBKS), picking up his first scalp of the season to achieve the landmark.

Only two bowlers have reached 150 IPL wickets quicker than Rashid - the legendary Lasith Malinga (105 matches) and India's Yuzvendra Chahal (118 matches). Rashid completed the feat in his 122nd match, making him the 12th bowler overall to enter the elite 150-wickets club.
| Bowler | Matches taken to reach 150 IPL wickets |
|---|---|
| Lasith Malinga | 105 |
| Yuzvendra Chahal | 118 |
| Rashid Khan | 122 |
| Jasprit Bumrah | 124 |
| Dwayne Bravo | 137 |
| Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 138 |
Rashid Khan's numbers are not just about wickets; they also reflect his ability to control the run flow. With an exceptional economy rate of around 6.8 - the best among bowlers with at least 65 IPL wickets - he continues to demonstrate his mastery in T20 cricket. His IPL career average sits under 18.8, highlighting his consistency as a match-winner.
Rashid began his IPL journey with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2017 and quickly became their go-to spinner. Over 76 matches with the Orange Army, he collected 93 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 6.33, making him SRH's second-highest wicket-taker after Bhuvneshwar Kumar (150 wickets). Despite his stellar performances, SRH did not retain him ahead of the 2022 mega auction, a decision that raised many eyebrows.
Since joining Gujarat Titans in 2022, Rashid has been instrumental in their bowling attack. He has already surpassed 56 wickets in 46 games for the franchise, making him their highest wicket-taker. Notably, his first IPL hat-trick came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2023. Although his IPL 2024 campaign was underwhelming, with only 10 wickets at an average of 36.70, Rashid remains a key player for GT this season.
Earlier this year, Rashid became the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket, surpassing Dwayne Bravo's record. He achieved this feat during MI Cape Town's SA20 league match against Paarl Royals. Across all T20 matches, he boasts over 635 wickets in 463 games, with four five-wicket hauls.
As IPL 2025 unfolds, Rashid is on the brink of more milestones. He is just two fours away from reaching 100 fours in T20s in Asia and seven sixes short of completing 100 maximums in the region. With his spin magic and all-round capabilities, Rashid Khan continues to solidify his legacy as one of the finest bowlers the game has ever seen.
