Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday (March 28) not only ended their Chepauk hoodoo against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but also handed the five-time champions their biggest margin loss at home since 2019 following their 50-run victory in match 8 of IPL 2025.
RCB rode on skipper Rajat Patidar's fifty and Tim David's late cameo to set a challenging target of 197 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai before Josh Hazlewood led bowling unit stepped up to restrict the home side to 146/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

This result saw RCB end a 17-year wait for a win over CSK in their own backyard, stopping an 8-match losing streak on their visits to face their Southern rivals at the Chepauk, which the home team has made a fortress over the years.
With 52 wins in 73 matches, CSK possess one of the best winning percentage (around 70%) for an IPL team at their home venue. However, their home fortress has often been breached since last season.
While they won their opening game of IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians, CSK had lost to Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants last season in addition to RCB, who handed them one of the biggest defeats at home.
Before RCB's 50-run win, Mumbai Indians had registered the biggest margin win against CSK in Chennai, having won a 2019 encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium by 46 runs. CSK very rarely loss at home let alone by margin above 40 runs in other matches.
In fact CSK has lost only nine times when chasing games at their home venue since the inception of the Indian Premier League. Their first defeat when batting second at Chepauk also came against RCB when the Bengaluru-based side defended 126 in 2008. Here is a look at the top 5 biggest margin defeats by runs for CSK at Chepauk:
