The deadline day for all the 10 Indian Premier League teams to announce their retention and released players list has arrived, and some top names have been let go by their franchises ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
All the released players and the remaining players who will register their names for the IPL Mega Auction, likely to be held in the last week of November, will go under the hammer across the two-day bidding process.

While some players may have been let go for their poor performances, many franchises have been forced to release their key players as the player regulations announced by the IPL Governing Council allows a team to retain only a total of 6 players from their 2024 squad.
Teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians would have preferred to have more players retained, but they will have to buy some of their stars at the auction.
Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jos Buttler are some of the surprise names being allowed to enter the auction by their respective franchise. There are also more names that will need to find new homes or will hope to bought back by their teams at the auction.
Here is a look at the released players list as per reports from major media outlets. The list was officially released after 5:30 PM IST on Thursday, October 31:
