PBKS vs DC: Amid escalating geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) for a period of one week. The move comes as a precaution following a sudden spike in security concerns across northern India.
The uncertainty around the league's future intensified after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was stopped midway on Thursday due to air raid alerts in nearby regions including Jammu and Pathankot.

The incident triggered swift action, with teams and staff being evacuated from the hill station and transported to Delhi by train, thanks to prompt assistance from the Indian Railways.
The BCCI called an urgent meeting on Friday to assess the situation and decide on the way forward. In a formal statement, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the temporary suspension of the tournament, adding that they are in touch with all necessary parties to determine the next steps.
"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders," said Saikia.
According to The Indian Express, all franchises have reached a consensus to allow their overseas players to return home for the time being. However, the board has urged teams and players to remain on standby, as it aims to resume play exactly a week from the pause.
One of the key developments under consideration is the rescheduling of the halted PBKS vs DC fixture, which could be replayed once the league restarts. The challenge now lies in fitting the remaining matches into a two-week slot, as per internal timelines.
To mitigate further risk and restore confidence among foreign players, the BCCI is evaluating alternate host cities located in southern India - including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam - along with Kolkata, which is farther from the border areas currently under alert.
While the suspension has temporarily halted the cricketing frenzy, the BCCI remains hopeful that IPL 2025 will be able to conclude smoothly, albeit under revised logistical arrangements.
