IPL 2025 Resumption: The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League has entered a period of uncertainty following its suspension on May 9 due to rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan.
As the tournament pauses at the midway stage, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is exploring a contingency plan to ensure the season can resume and conclude without compromising on safety and scheduling.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, BCCI has identified Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad as potential venues to host the remaining matches should the league restart in late May. These cities are being considered due to their relatively stable security situations and well-equipped infrastructure.
Although the official communication from the board confirmed a week-long halt, no definitive timeline has been provided regarding when or how the tournament will restart. Informal discussions with franchise officials suggest that the rest of the season may even be pushed to later in the year if the current political situation doesn't improve soon.
The league was paused after 57 games, with Match 58-between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals-being abandoned midway through the first innings. It is yet to be confirmed whether that fixture will be replayed or simply recorded as a "No Result," granting one point to each team.
A major concern for the resumption lies in the availability of overseas players. With many foreign cricketers flying back home immediately after the suspension was announced, their return could prove difficult, particularly as the revised IPL schedule may clash with international commitments. The World Test Championship final between South Africa and Australia, scheduled for June 11 at Lord's, adds to the logistical challenge, as several IPL players are expected to participate in that marquee game.
If IPL 2025 does resume within the originally allotted window, 16 matches remain, including 12 league-stage fixtures and four playoff games. Hyderabad was initially set to host the first qualifier and eliminator, while the second qualifier and final were planned for Kolkata. Whether the BCCI will retain this allocation or shift all matches to the newly shortlisted venues remains to be seen.
For now, fans and franchises alike are waiting on further communication from the board as IPL 2025 hangs in the balance.
