With a shocking move, Delhi Capitals announced the release of their former captain Rishabh Pant, ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. It is surprising, given his central role in the team over the past few seasons.
With only four retained players - Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and the uncapped Indian batter Abhishek Porel, the Capitals are signalling a major rebuild.

The franchise will have two Right to Match (RTM) cards at the auction, which could allow them to reacquire some of their previous key players. Retaining Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, both impactful spinners, suggests a strategic focus on maintaining their bowling prowess, while Tristan Stubbs brings in the power-hitting potential.
This move might open up a substantial budget for DC at the auction, allowing them to target high-impact players to fill crucial gaps. The coming auction should be interesting to watch as the team reshapes its core.
Many famous faces, including many overseas players, will be available for auction from the DC squad. The retention list has only one overseas player. As a result, most of their overseas player pool will be available on the auction day.
Some star batters like David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Shai Hope, Mitchell Marsh, along with last season's wonder Jake Fraser-McGurk, will also be released. Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Anrich Nortje will also be entering the upcoming auction.
However, it will be interesting to watch how the DC management will fill the void created by the release of Rishabh Pant. However, there is always an option to take back some of these released players into the squad by using the Right to Match (RTM) option in the upcoming auction.
