IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant Grants LSG Rookie’s Wish, Digvesh Rathi Meets Idol Sunil Narine in Dream-Come-True Moment

IPL 2025: In the glittering world of the Indian Premier League, moments of pure emotion sometimes shine brighter than sixes and hat-tricks.

One such heartwarming instance unfolded ahead of Lucknow Super Giants’ upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, as LSG captain Rishabh Pant played the perfect mentor, orchestrating a special meeting that left young spinner Digvesh Rathi speechless.

IPL 2025 Rishabh Pant Grants LSG Rookie s Wish Digvesh Rathi Meets Idol Sunil Narine in Dream-Come-True Moment

Just a few months into his professional cricket career, 23-year-old Rathi has already had a moment that many would call a lifetime dream. After his Player of the Match-winning effort against Mumbai Indians — a spellbinding 2/21 that proved crucial in a 12-run win — Rathi revealed the inspiration behind his spin wizardry: none other than West Indies legend Sunil Narine.

And what happened next could easily have been mistaken for the climax of a Bollywood biopic. In a touching move, Pant ensured Rathi got to meet his idol Narine before the highly anticipated IPL 2025 fixture. As the two spinners finally came face-to-face, Rathi, lost for words, could only whisper: “Haanji… yehi hai.”

A Dream Years in the Making

Rathi’s journey to the IPL limelight has been far from straightforward. Hailing from North East Delhi, he was once a forgotten name in the domestic circuits. Having gone unnoticed in the Delhi U-23 setup back in 2018/19 and spending years away from professional cricket, Rathi's return came only in 2022/23 through the U-25 side. But it was in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) that he truly turned heads, especially under the watchful eye of former India wicketkeeper and talent scout Vijay Dahiya.

It was Dahiya who first spotted the tall leg-spinner at a local tournament and was immediately taken by his high-arm action and classical flight. Dahiya was so convinced of Rathi’s potential that he told Ayush Badoni — already with LSG at the time — that “this boy is going to play in the IPL soon.” Turns out, he was right.

Despite consistent performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rathi was bafflingly underused by Delhi's domestic side. Yet, his dedication never wavered. With Dahiya personally overseeing his pre-season preparation at St Stephen’s College nets earlier this year, Rathi entered the IPL with quiet determination.

Bond Beyond Boundaries

What adds another layer to this story is Rathi’s deep-rooted friendship with Kolkata Knight Riders’ spinner Suyash Sharma. Both from the same North East Delhi neighbourhood, the two trained side by side, dreaming of the big stage. Now, as Rathi prepares to take on Sharma’s side, he’s already ticking off milestones he never imagined achieving this soon.

Meeting Narine wasn’t just a fan moment — it was a spiritual full circle. The Trinidadian mystery spinner has been a pioneer of the T20 format, and his unconventional methods and calm demeanour left a lasting impression on a teenage Rathi. “I used to watch Sunil Narine videos every night,” Rathi had said after the MI match. “He made me fall in love with spin.”

Pant: The Perfect Leader

At the heart of this emotional tale stands Rishabh Pant — a leader who continues to win hearts off the field as much as he entertains on it. Ever since taking the reins at LSG, Pant has shown a keen sense of camaraderie and support for younger players. His move to arrange a meeting between Rathi and Narine speaks volumes of his captaincy style — one grounded in empathy and empowerment.

Such gestures are rare in the high-pressure, performance-first world of the IPL. But Pant, having himself risen from humble beginnings in Roorkee, knows the value of belief and opportunity. His thoughtful intervention created not just a memory, but a spark that may well ignite Rathi’s journey even further.

Turning Promise into Performance

Statistically speaking, Rathi is already proving he belongs. With six wickets in just four matches, he has offered control and guile, standing out in a side with established stars. His economical spells have been central to LSG’s mid-table climb, and with Pant backing him and Narine inspiring him, the road ahead seems promising.

Whether he eventually goes on to emulate Narine’s T20 legacy is still a story unwritten. But for now, Digvesh Rathi has already lived a scene most only get to script in dreams. A young cricketer inspired by a legend, guided by a caring captain, and fuelled by sheer love for the game — it’s the kind of tale the IPL was made for.

As the Lucknow Super Giants get ready for their big showdown against the Knight Riders, one thing is certain — Rathi will walk out with a heart full of gratitude, confidence and maybe even a bit of Narine’s magic in his stride.
