IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant, the newly appointed captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), recently left fans in splits with his hilarious imitation of Sunil Gavaskar's iconic "stupid, stupid, stupid!" commentary.
The moment, originally from the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was Gavaskar's sharp reaction to one of Pant's reckless shot selections during a crucial Test match.

The incident took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the fourth Test of the series. Known for his aggressive and fearless batting style, Pant attempted an ill-advised shot that went straight into the hands of the third man.
The dismissal left the Indian team in a tough spot, prompting Gavaskar, who was on commentary duty alongside Harsha Bhogle, to express his frustration. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! You've got two fielders there, and you still go for that shot. You missed the previous one, and look where you've been caught. This is throwing away your wicket, and you cannot say it's your natural game. I'm sorry, but that was a stupid shot, letting your team down badly. You have to understand the situation," Gavaskar had said.
Now, months later, Pant has embraced the moment with humour. In a video circulating on social media, he is seen wearing a microphone and attempting to replicate Gavaskar's passionate reaction. However, he fails to maintain a serious tone and bursts into laughter, much to the amusement of his teammates and fans.
Pant has often been at the center of discussions regarding his high-risk batting approach. While he has delivered match-winning performances with his unconventional style, his decision-making has occasionally drawn criticism. Gavaskar's remarks had sparked debates on whether Pant should rein in his aggression in key situations.
Off the field, Pant has continued to make headlines, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. At the IPL 2025 auction, he was snapped up by Lucknow Super Giants for a staggering ₹27 crore and was later named the team's captain, replacing KL Rahul.
LSG will begin their IPL 2025 campaign on March 24 against the Delhi Capitals in Vishakhapatnam. With Pant leading the side, fans will be eager to see if he blends his natural flair with tactical maturity.
