IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma Ends Fifty Drought as MI Cruise to Victory Over CSK

A packed Sunday crowd at the iconic Wankhede witnessed a masterclass from Rohit Sharma, as the Mumbai Indians steamrolled Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets in Match 38 of IPL 2025 on 20th April.

Chasing 177, MI made light work of the target, getting there in just 15.4 overs, with Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav putting on a stunning show under the lights.

Rohit Breaks Silence With First Fifty of the Season

Coming into this match after seven games without a half-century, Rohit Sharma finally found his rhythm - and what better opponent to rediscover form against than CSK. The former MI skipper smashed an unbeaten 76 off just 45 balls, laced with 4 boundaries and 6 sixes, much to the delight of the Wankhede faithful.

Rohit looked in vintage touch from the very beginning, driving with finesse, pulling with authority, and launching the spinners into the stands like only he can. The knock marked his first fifty of the 2025 season, and it came just when MI needed their batting pillar to stand tall.

SKY Shines Bright Again

While Rohit anchored one end, Suryakumar Yadav lit up the Wankhede at the other. SKY blazed away to a spectacular 68 off 30 balls*, striking 6 fours and 5 sixes at an electrifying strike rate of 226.67. He walked in at 63/1 after Ryan Rickelton's dismissal and never allowed CSK's bowlers to settle, especially punishing Noor Ahmad and Pathirana.

Their unbroken 114-run partnership for the second wicket was the knockout punch that floored Chennai.

CSK's Bowlers Struggle for Answers

Defending a respectable total, CSK's bowling unit looked completely out of sync. The pace duo of Jamie Overton (2-0-29-0) and Pathirana (1.4-0-34-0) were hammered all around, while Noor Ahmad's 3-over spell cost 36 runs. Jadeja, who took the only wicket (Rickelton for 24), was the only bowler to have some measure of success.

Earlier: Jadeja and Dube Guide CSK to 176

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja (53 off 35)* and Shivam Dube (50 off 32) helped Chennai reach 176/5 after a shaky start. MI's bowlers, especially Mitchell Santner (1/14), Jasprit Bumrah (2/25), and Ashwani Kumar (1/42), kept things under control for most of the innings. Despite a few late boundaries, the total proved far too little against a determined MI batting unit.
