IPL 2025: As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 gears up for another electrifying season, the logistical challenge of extensive travel looms large over the teams. With each franchise playing 14 matches—seven at home and seven away—players will crisscross the country, accumulating thousands of kilometres in travel.
While the excitement of the tournament is undeniable, the travel burden is significant. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will log the highest mileage, covering an exhausting 17,084 kilometres during the league stage, according to a report by Times of India.

The discussion around gruelling travel schedules gained traction during the Champions Trophy, where teams like New Zealand and South Africa had tight itineraries due to the hybrid format, requiring frequent flights between Pakistan and Dubai. After South Africa’s exit, star batter David Miller highlighted the toll it took on players.
"It's only an hour and 40-minute flight, but the fact that we had to do that was not ideal. It's early morning, it's after a game, and we had to fly... It doesn't make it nice."
With IPL 2025 set to demand even greater travel commitments, players will need to adapt to frequent flights, changing time zones, and varying conditions across India’s diverse venues.
Despite the physically demanding nature of the travel, some players believe mental strength is the key to handling the relentless schedule. Abhishek Porel, wicketkeeper-batter for Delhi Capitals, shared his perspective on embracing the challenge.
"This is all mental. If you look at it in a toxic way, it will look toxic. If you enjoy it, you'd consider it a daily routine."
His teammate Karun Nair echoed similar sentiments, emphasising that passion for the sport helps overcome travel fatigue.
"I think all of us are playing the game that we love. I don't think we should have any complaints about travel. All of us have played enough to understand these things come with playing cricket at this level."
RCB’s 17,084-kilometre journey will be the longest among all teams. However, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will also endure a heavy schedule, covering 16,184 kilometres. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will enjoy the second-shortest distance at 9,270 kilometres, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will have the lightest travel burden at 8,536 kilometres.
With travel distances ranging from 8,500 km to over 17,000 km, team management will need to strategise recovery sessions, training schedules, and rest periods to keep players in peak condition. The challenge is not just about performance on the field but also ensuring players remain physically and mentally fresh throughout the tournament.
As the IPL 2025 season unfolds, teams will not only battle it out on the pitch but also navigate the relentless demands of travel—making mental resilience and smart management crucial to success.
