IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru Unveil Fresh Green Jersey in Kolkata

By MyKhel Staff

IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will continue their annual tradition of donning the green jersey in one of their matches during this year's Indian Premier League (IPL). The green jersey symbolizes the team's commitment to promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainability.

According to sources, RCB will wear the green jersey in one of their two afternoon matches scheduled at 3:30 PM. They will face Rajasthan Royals on April 13 in Jaipur, followed by a clash against Punjab Kings on April 20 in Mullanpur.

IPL 2025

Victory at Eden Gardens and Green Jersey Unveiling

RCB kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign in style, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on Saturday. Interestingly, last year, the team wore the green jersey at Eden Gardens and faced a narrow one-run defeat to KKR. This time, the mood was celebratory as RCB unveiled their green jersey in Kolkata.

However, the event faced some organizational hiccups. Journalists were informed that Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Devdutt Padikkal would display the green jersey. The event, hosted by RCB's principal sponsor KEI Industries, took place at the JW Marriott Hotel. Despite the anticipation, the players appeared in the red jersey instead. While company officials showcased the green jersey, the players were not seen holding it. Later, after the press conference, the players were spotted in a photoshoot wearing the iconic green jersey.

Virat Kohli's Leadership Gesture

A notable moment during the event was Virat Kohli's display of sportsmanship. Photographers requested him to stand at the center for the group photos, but Kohli politely declined, signaling that the newly appointed captain, Rajat Patidar, should take the center position. Kohli and Padikkal flanked him, emphasizing the spirit of team unity.

Mixed Results in Green

Since 2011, RCB has worn the green jersey once every season to spread the message of environmental conservation. However, their track record in these matches has not been favorable. Out of 14 matches played in green, RCB has won only four.

The team's first win in the green jersey came in 2011 against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in Bengaluru. However, they faced consecutive losses in the following years, including defeats to Mumbai Indians in 2012, Kings XI Punjab in 2013, and Chennai Super Kings in 2014.

RCB's second victory in green came in 2016 when they crushed Gujarat Lions by 144 runs. Subsequent years saw more losses, notably against KKR in 2017, Rajasthan Royals in 2018, and Delhi Capitals in 2019. In 2020, they faced another setback, losing to Chennai Super Kings in Dubai.

In 2021, RCB replaced their green jersey with a blue one to honor frontline workers during the pandemic, but they lost to KKR in Abu Dhabi. However, they bounced back in 2022 and 2023 with wins against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, respectively.

Looking Ahead

RCB's next match is scheduled for March 28 against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. As the team continues its green initiative, fans eagerly await to see if the green jersey will bring a change in fortunes this season. Will the team finally break the jinx and add another victory to their green jersey record? Only time will tell.
