All-rounder Shubham Dubey on Wednesday (April 16) created history after Rajasthan Royals (RR) very late call during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Dubey, who is often been used as an Impact Substitute this season, became the first Impact Player to be introduced in a Super Over. While the Impact sub is used by teams strategically to strengthen their bowling or batting department, RR utilized their option for a different reason.

The 30-year-old uncapped Indian batter from Vidarbha replaced Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana just before Royals' defence of 12 in the Super Over. RR made use of the option, having missed out on using the Impact Player during 40 overs of the game before the super over.
The only reason behind the move could be to utilise Dubey's fielding abilities during the Super Over, but the impact sub could hardly create an impact to effect the game as Delhi Capitals chased down the score with two balls to spare in the first Super Over of IPL 2025.
Overall, it was the 15th Super Over in IPL and the first in nearly four years as Delhi Capitals extended their superior record in Super Overs to four in five such instances with a rebound win against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (April 16).
For RR this was their second super over loss in four attempts and also their fifth loss in the ongoing season, which leaves them in eighth spot with four points on board. Sanju Samson and Co face a tough task as they look to push for a top four finish with seven games remaining in the league phase.
Royals will get a quick chance to respond and get back to winning ways as they return to action within the space of two days to take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday (April 19).
