Lucknow Super Giants edged out Rajasthan Royals by just 2 runs in Match 36 of the IPL 2025 season on Saturday (April 19), as they won the encounter in the very last over.
The match culminated in a nail-biting finish, with Avesh Khan defending eight runs in the final over, taking three crucial wickets and sealing the win for his team. Rajasthan, who seemed in control for the majority of the chase, suffered a heartbreaking collapse in the dying moments of the game.

Opting to bat first, Lucknow posted a competitive total of 180/5 in their 20 overs. Aiden Markram anchored the innings with a well-compiled 66 off 45 balls, while Ayush Badoni struck a fluent 50 off 34 deliveries. The highlight of their innings came in the final over, when Abdul Samad launched a brutal assault, smashing four sixes off Sandeep Sharma to give the innings a final flourish. Rishabh Pant, leading LSG, fell cheaply for 3, while Wanindu Hasaranga chipped in with two wickets for the Royals.
Rajasthan Royals began their chase strongly, riding on the back of an authoritative knock by Yashasvi Jaiswal. The opener looked in sublime touch, scoring 74 off 52 balls, and was well-supported by 14-year-old debutant Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who impressed with a composed 34 in his maiden IPL outing. Despite losing Sanju Samson to injury and fielding a relatively young lineup, Rajasthan appeared well on course to chase down the target.
At 156/2 in the 17th over, the home side seemed set for a comfortable win. However, a dramatic turn of events unfolded as LSG clawed their way back. Avesh Khan bowled a superb final over under pressure, dismissing Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, and almost sealing the fate of the Royals single-handedly. Rajasthan eventually finished on 178/5, falling agonizingly short of the target.
