Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain and star batter, Sanju Samson has recently dropped a massive hint ahead of IPL 2025, that would see him in a different role change in the tournament and eventually he would be sacrificing his spot for the team's benefit.
Samson shared that he plans to step away from wicket-keeping duties in the 2025 season, hinting that Dhruv Jurel had made a request in this regard.

The Rajasthan Royals captain discussed the possibility of leading the side as a fielder but clarified that he is not entirely relinquishing the role, as the responsibility will be shared.
"I have not said this on air but we feel where Dhruv Jurel is at this point of his career as a Test wicket-keeper, he needs to wear the gloves in the IPL. That was a discussion. I think we will be sharing gloves. I have never captained as a fielder. That might be challenging. I have told him 'Dhruv, I understand where you are coming from and I think as a leader of the team, you should also keep for a few games.' We will see how to play around with that but nothing should come before the team. The team should come first and the individual must be given importance," Samson told Ab de Villiers on the latter's YouTube channel.
The 30-year-old has primarily served as Rajasthan Royals' wicketkeeper since 2021, even with Jos Buttler in the squad during that time. Samson has donned the gloves in 111 of his 146 matches for the team, with his most recent outing as a specialist batter coming in 2022.
With Buttler no longer part of the setup, RR is now exploring options for a new opening partner alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Samson, having recently opened for India in T20Is and notched three centuries in his last five innings, is a strong candidate for the opener role.
