IPL 2025: Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer has etched his name in the record books by completing 6,000 runs in men's T20 cricket. The milestone came during Match 5 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Where Iyer showcased his class against Gujarat Titans at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The achievement was sealed with his 26th run of the innings, further cementing Iyer's legacy as one of India's most prolific T20 batters.

IPL 2025 Shreyas Iyer Completes 6 000 T20 Runs PBKS Skipper IPL Winner and Record Holder Shines Bright

Racing past 6,000 runs

Iyer reached this monumental mark in what was his 224th T20 appearance. The right-handed batter's consistency in the shortest format is highlighted by his tally of three centuries and 37 half-centuries. Over 3,100 of those runs have been scored in the IPL alone, showcasing his impact in the world's most competitive T20 league. Beyond the IPL, Iyer has contributed 1,104 runs in 51 T20 internationals for Team India, underlining his value at both domestic and international levels.

Record-breaking knock in domestic cricket

Iyer also holds the record for the second-highest individual score by an Indian in T20 cricket. Back in February 2019, during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he blasted an unforgettable 147 off just 55 balls for Mumbai against Sikkim. That innings included a staggering 15 sixes. Though Tilak Varma surpassed this feat last year with a scintillating 151 for Hyderabad against Meghalaya, Iyer's explosive innings still remains etched in Indian domestic cricket history.

A hefty price tag

The 29-year-old batter's prowess and leadership qualities didn't go unnoticed during the 2025 IPL auction. Iyer was roped in by Punjab Kings for a record-breaking sum of ₹26.75 crore, the highest amount paid for a player this season. Appointed as the PBKS captain in January this year, Iyer is expected to bring his experience and stability to the side. He remains one of only eight captains to lift the IPL trophy, having led Kolkata Knight Riders to a memorable triumph in 2024.

A remarkable IPL journey

Iyer's IPL journey began in 2015 with the Delhi Capitals. He remains one of only five players to have scored over 2,000 runs for DC, amassing 2,375 runs from 87 matches. Impressively, 16 of his 21 IPL half-centuries came while representing the Capitals. In 2022, he made the move to Kolkata Knight Riders, and by 2024, his leadership and striking form - with a strike rate of 146.86 - played a pivotal role in KKR's title-winning campaign.

From humble beginnings to leading two different IPL franchises to the final, Iyer's T20 journey continues to inspire, with his latest milestone adding another golden feather to his cap.
