IPL 2025: Sunil Gavaskar Bold Plea After Pahalgam Attack – “What Has All This Fighting Achieved in 78 Years?”

IPL 2025: The shocking terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 innocent lives, has sent ripples of grief across the nation. As the country mourns yet another tragedy in the serene valley of Kashmir, voices from all corners are rising in solidarity with the victims.

Among them, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar took a powerful stand during a live IPL 2025 broadcast on Star Sports, delivering an emotional and thought-provoking message that has since sparked nationwide conversation.

IPL 2025 Sunil Gavaskar Bold Plea After Pahalgam Attack What Has All This Fighting Achieved in 78 Years

Visibly moved, Gavaskar questioned the very purpose of the decades-long India-Pakistan conflict, asking, "What has all this fighting achieved in 78 years?" His heartfelt plea for peace, aired live ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Rajasthan Royals clash, cut through the noise of political rhetoric and struck a deep emotional chord with millions. At a time when the country is struggling with grief, Gavaskar's words serve as both a wake-up call and a rallying cry for unity and strength.

Gavaskar's Emotional Outburst

While the cricketing community mourned the tragic loss of life, Gavaskar’s words during a live IPL broadcast ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Rajasthan Royals match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium resonated deeply. With raw emotion in his voice, he asked a pointed question to the perpetrators of the violence and their supporters.

"I send my condolences to all the families who have lost their loved and dear ones. It has affected all of us Indians," Gavaskar began.

"I just want to ask a question to all the perpetrators, and all those who backed them (the terrorists), their handlers—what has all this fighting achieved?"

"For the last 78 years, not one millimetre of land has exchanged hands, is it? So for the next 78,000 years, nothing is going to change. So why don’t we live in peace instead, and make our country strong? So that is my appeal."

His passionate plea struck a chord with viewers across the nation, leaving them to reflect on the senseless violence that has continued to plague the region for far too long.

The Tragedy of Pahalgam

The terror attack on Tuesday has left an indelible scar on the hearts of millions, as 26 people from 14 different states were killed, and many more were injured. The attack, coming just a few years after the Pulwama tragedy in 2019, has revived painful memories for many. The bloodshed in the serene valley of Pahalgam has shaken not only India but the entire world, as people from all walks of life came together to mourn.

In a heartening display of unity, cricketers from across the spectrum voiced their sorrow. Icons like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar, among others, extended their condolences to the victims' families, standing in solidarity with those affected by the heinous act.

BCCI’s Strong Response

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also responded strongly to the attack, with Secretary Devajit Saikia condemning the act in the strongest terms.

"The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam yesterday," Saikia stated.

"On behalf of the BCCI, while condemning this ghastly and cowardly act with the strongest possible words, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls."

The BCCI reiterated its condolences via its official account on X.

"Standing in solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Prayers for the families who lost their loved ones in this gruesome attack," the post read.

Amid the mourning, Gavaskar’s call for peace has reverberated across the nation. His appeal to break the cycle of violence and move towards peace, so that future generations can live in a stronger, united India, serves as a timely reminder of the urgent need for dialogue and understanding.

As the nation continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Pahalgam tragedy, Gavaskar’s candid question lingers in the air—what has all this fighting truly achieved? The time for change, and for peace, is now.
