IPL 2025 Suspended: League To Be Resumed During Bangladesh Tour, Asia Cup Window- Report

IPL 2025 Suspended: Following the indefinite suspension of IPL 2025 due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now exploring the possibility of utilizing the August-September window to complete the remainder of the tournament.

With India scheduled to tour England for a five-match Test series starting in early June, this two-month gap could present the only viable opportunity to resume the league-provided the situation stabilizes.

IPL 2025 Suspended

The fallout from Operation Sindoor, a military strike in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, has led to widespread disruptions across northern India. Several IPL matches were impacted, including the May 8 clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, which was called off mid-game due to security alerts.

Reports confirmed that players from both teams were visibly shaken, prompting an early morning evacuation by special train on Friday.

The BCCI is currently in damage control mode, prioritizing the safety and psychological well-being of all stakeholders involved in the IPL. Officials are also said to be in no mood to entertain India's participation in the Bangladesh tour (August) or the Asia Cup (September), even if the IPL is concluded beforehand. Those bilateral and regional fixtures are, for now, off the radar.

A match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scheduled for Friday in Lucknow, was also cancelled amid ongoing security threats. In a show of solidarity, LSG posted "Nation first" on their official social media platform after news of the league's suspension broke.

The Indian government has reportedly tightened security protocols, restricted airspace access, and enforced blackouts in several regions including Chandigarh, Pathankot, and Amritsar, following air raid sirens and suspected blasts across Jammu and Kashmir.

At present, no firm timeline has been provided by the BCCI regarding the potential resumption of the league. The board is closely monitoring developments and will only make a call when national security agencies give the green light. Until then, cricket remains on pause, with player safety and national interest taking precedence.
