IPL 2025: The Biggest Purse in History! Teams likely to have increased purse from previous Rs 90 Crore

BCCI will have their 93rd Annual General Meet on Sunday (September 29) in Bengaluru and the decision will be taken regarding the IPL retentions and purse. But ahead of that, a report from ESPNCricinfo has claimed about the possible decisions.

As per the latest report, the IPL teams are likely to have 5 retentions ahead of the auction. The teams are also likely to have 1 Right to Match (RTM) during the auction, which allows the franchises to match the bid of another team for any of their previous players.

IPL 2025 Purse to increase by 30 per cent

The IPL 2022 auction had a purse of Rs 90 crore, but it is likely to have a significant increase in the upcoming mega auction. As per ESPNCricinfo, teams may have a purse of 115-120 crore as they look to rebuild their squad for the next cycle of the IPL. This will mean the biggest purse in history of the tournament as the purse breaches the three-figure mark for the first time as well.

When comparing current spending trends with previous seasons, it is evident that teams are adopting more aggressive financial strategies. And with an enhanced purse and a decent number of retentions, it will provide solidity to all the teams.
