IPL 2025: 'This Innings will be remembered..' - Sunil Gavaskar in awe of Ashutosh Sharma blitzkrieg

By MyKhel Staff

India legend Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praises on Ashutosh Sharma after his breathtaking knock against Lucknow Super Giants in Vizag.

Ashutosh played a blinder for Delhi Capitals and scored an unbeaten 66 runs in just 31 balls to secure a thrilling victory.

The former Punjab Kings batter came on as an Impact Player when Delhi were 65 for 5. He showcased his might with some superb shots and then rallied the lower order with him to snatch an improbable win for the Capitals. Under pressure, the 26-year-old stood tall and continued his hitting. His winning shot came with a straight six down the ground.

Ashutosh gained prominence after some scintillating knocks for Punjab Kings last year. He was poised to be retained by PBKS but ended up joining the Capitals in the auction. And former India player Sunil Gavaskar believes the player has only grown in stature.

"Well, we saw him do that last year as well-he played some terrific innings, and his confidence has only grown since. Once you've done it before, you enter the next season with even greater self-belief. He's also played another season of domestic cricket, where he has been smashing the ball around and scoring plenty of runs, so he came in full of confidence," Gavaskar said on Jio Hotstar.

Gavaskar also believes the innings will be remembered years to come, not just for the hitting prowess but for overall scenario, where Ashutosh managed to reign supreme amid pressure situation.

"From the very first ball, he was striking it cleanly from the middle of the bat, sending it deep-these weren't just occasional sixes clearing the boundary, they were landing in the stands, again and again. This innings will be remembered for a long, long time-not just because of the quality of stroke play, but because of the high-pressure situation," he added.
